
Lydia Chwastiak, MD, MPH

Lydia Chwastiak is a psychiatrist, internist and health services researcher and Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington. Her research over the past 21 years has aimed to improve medical and mental health care and outcomes for people with complex needs in low resource settings, such as safety net and low-barrier primary care clinics and community mental health centers. Dr. Chwastiak has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and has led or co-led eight federally funded research projects to adapt and implement integrated care interventions in low resource settings. In addition to her role on CMHIS, she is the director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Mental Health at UW, and co-director of the UW Behavioral Research in HIV (BIRCH) Center, an NIMH-funded HIV and mental health research center.
